Brief | Introduction & Role
As a Senior UI/UX Interaction Designer at General Electric, my focus revolved around enhancing an internal design tool. Specifically, I contributed to a feature aimed at streamlining data gathering and reporting for cross-functional teams, reducing their need for multiple daily meetings within the organization's workflow.
My journey involved navigating through challenges and growth opportunities. Initially, I delved into understanding the core problem by engaging with various teams, exploring their tools, pain points, and objectives. This immersive process helped me grasp their workflows, comprehend the user base, and experiment with diverse design approaches.
Learning & Growth
A significant chunk of my effort was dedicated to wireframing multiple iterations of the feature. Subsequently, I translated these into a rapid prototype for showcasing during interview sessions, seeking valuable feedback from leadership. This phase honed my storytelling abilities and taught me to embrace constructive criticism, a crucial facet for my ongoing development.
Through iterative cycles, interviews, and crafting persona cards, I culminated the design into its final form for validation by my project lead. This journey added valuable skills to my arsenal and fortified my confidence in navigating the concept-to-execution workflow, a skill set I aim to carry forward in my career.
Takeaway
The project's biggest challenge lay in designing a feature that catered to diverse leadership roles without skewing toward any specific segment. However, these hurdles proved instrumental in my evolution as a designer. They pushed me beyond my comfort zone, encouraged novel experiences, and honed my ability to tackle high-impact problems with a holistic perspective. This journey not only cultivated my design skills but also fostered collaborative teamwork, emphasizing the importance of engaging not only with my immediate team but also with end-users to create impactful products.
